Common questions

The calorie estimate looks wrong

It's an estimate, and portion size is the hardest part of it. Tap any logged meal to reopen it, adjust the quantity on any line, or use Look up to ask again for a single item. Corrections are kept, and they're how the estimates get judged.

My steps or sleep look wrong

Those come from Apple Health rather than from SteadyCal. Check Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → SteadyCal and confirm the categories are switched on. iOS never tells an app whether a read permission was refused, so if a figure is missing, that's the first place to look.

Can I use it without Apple Health?

Yes. Everything can be entered by hand — food, water, weight, workouts and how you're feeling. Health sync only removes the typing.

Photo scanning has stopped for today

Photo scans are limited per day. Describing a meal in words still works, as does scanning a barcode, and adding it by hand is always unlimited.

Exporting or deleting my data

Both are in the app, at You → Your data. Export gives you everything held about you in a readable file. Deletion is real deletion — the account, every row and every meal photograph — and it cannot be undone.

Is SteadyCal a medical device?

No. It doesn't diagnose, treat or prevent anything, and it isn't a substitute for advice from a professional. It's a tracking tool for general wellbeing, intended for adults.

If you're struggling with food, eating or how you feel about your body, talking to someone helps. In the UK, Beat runs a helpline on 0808 801 0677, and Samaritans are on 116 123, free, at any hour.
